Step Out of the Prison. Step Into the Adventure.

Everyone has two rooms in life. One is filled with pain and powerlessness. The other is filled with blessings and choices.
They’re not equal for everyone, but that’s not the point.
The point is this: your future is shaped by which room you spend your time in.

The Room That Keeps You Stuck

Every one of us wakes up each day standing between two doorways.

One leads to what I call the Room of Woe and No Control.
It’s a prison made of regret, excuses, and helplessness. It’s filled with things you didn’t choose—losses, pain, unfairness.
But some of what’s in there? You did choose it.

We’ve all ignored what we should have faced… made choices we regret… told ourselves stories that protect our pride but leave us stuck.
And the longer we dwell in that room, the heavier it gets.

The Room That Changes Everything

But right next to it is another doorway.

It leads to the Room of Gratitude and Control.
This room is built on ownership, perspective, and small daily actions.

You can’t fully live here until you admit where you are—and how you got there.
Not everything is your fault, but nothing changes until you own your part.

That moment of honesty? That’s the key.
Ownership isn’t about shame—it’s about unlocking the future.

When you say,

  • “I knew better, but didn’t do better.”
  • “My thinking needs to change.”
  • “I’ve been drifting, and it’s time to act…”
you shut the door on the prison behind you—and open the one that leads forward.

What Happens When You Choose This Room

Here’s what I’ve seen in my own life and in the lives of others:

  • Gratitude changes your perspective.
  • Control gives you a clear plan of action.
  • Ownership breaks the chains of blame.

The Room of Gratitude and Control is not a place of denial—it’s a place of movement.
At the back of this room, the door is wide open.
It leads outside. To fresh air. To purpose. To adventure.

You weren’t made to live in a prison.
You were made to live with vision and responsibility—and to walk boldly with Jesus.

Jesus Talked About This, Too

He said:

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

Daily. Not once.
You choose your room every morning.
You can’t control the cross—but you can control how you carry it.

Jesus never played the victim. Even when wronged, He chose love. He chose truth. He chose to act with purpose.

And as His disciples, we’re called to do the same.

How to Know Which Room You’re In

Here’s a quick gut-check:

Room of Woe and No Control:

  • You dwell on what happened to you
  • You point fingers
  • You focus on what’s wrong
  • You feel paralyzed, bitter, stuck

Room of Gratitude and Control:

  • You focus on what you can do
  • You name your blessings
  • You take small, meaningful steps
  • You forgive, learn, grow

Don’t Overthink It—Just Choose

You don’t have to fix your whole life overnight.

But you do have to choose your room today.
Because your future is being shaped right now—by the room you’re standing in.

Questions to Reflect On

  • What’s one area where you’ve been living in the Room of Woe?
  • What are you blaming that might actually be within your control?
  • What’s one small step you can take today to move toward freedom?
