Silence Makes Us Uncomfortable

Especially Silence With Jesus

If you’ve never spent quiet time with Him in a church—when there’s no service, no music, and no one else around—you may be missing something essential.

This isn’t about techniques.
It isn’t about feelings.
It’s about presence.

Why quiet time in a church is different

When the church is empty, there’s nowhere to perform.

No one is watching.
Nothing is expected.
There’s nothing to keep up.

It’s just you… and Jesus.

And that kind of quiet does something to us. It lowers our guard. It slows our thoughts. It makes honesty possible.

Jesus is really there

Catholics don’t believe the Eucharist is a symbol.

We believe Jesus is truly present—
Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—
in the tabernacle.

That matters.

Because it means you’re not talking into the air.
You’re not practicing mindfulness.
You’re not imagining a presence.

You’re sitting with a Person.

Making this realistic

I know this isn’t always easy. Many churches aren’t open all day anymore.

But if a church near you is open, there are small ways to make this real:

  • Stop in on your way to or from work
  • Go once a week during lunch, even if it means skipping the meal
  • Arrive early before Mass and sit quietly
  • Ten minutes counts. You don’t have to stay long.

This isn’t about doing something impressive.
It’s about showing up.

What to do when you’re there

You don’t need a script.

You don’t need holy words.

Just acknowledge Jesus is there.
Tell Him what’s real.
Then be quiet.

You can bring a notebook if you want—not to write something profound, just to be honest. Or don’t bring anything at all.

The only requirement is this:
Let Jesus love you… and love Him back.

A simple challenge

Try this for ten days.

Not ten perfect visits.
Not ten long visits.

Just ten days of intentionally being with Jesus in a quiet church, however long you can manage.

If you miss a day, start again the next.

And before you leave each time, you might say something simple:

“Jesus, help me know You better.”

Why I believe this matters

If Jesus is real—and we believe He is—
He will meet you there.

Not always with words.
Not always with answers.

But with a growing awareness that you are not alone… and never have been.

If anything good comes from this, it isn’t about who shared the idea.
It’s about Who is waiting.

One-line takeaway:
Silence with Jesus isn’t empty—it’s where relationship begins.
